Pennsylvania Democrats Ignore Investments by Sen. Bob Casey in Chinese Fentanyl Company with Attacks on Dave McCormick

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party on Tuesday issued a press release containing remarks by elected officials about the investment by Republican U.S. Senate nominee Dave McCormick in fund that owns shares in a Chinese fentanyl manufacturer, despite failing to acknowledge a similar investment by Senator Bob Casey (D-PA).

A party press release reports that State Representative Jim Prokopiak (D-Bucks County) and Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie held a press conference to condemn McCormick for his investment and his stance on abortion.

“McCormick’s record shows he is out for himself while he makes Pennsylvanians pay the price,” the party claimed.

Harvie specifically argued McCormick’s investment suggests “he’ll put his own bottom line ahead of our families,” and stated, “We need leaders, like Bob Casey, who have a proven record of fighting the fentanyl crisis.”

Casey and his allies accuse McCormick of investing $1.7 million in the Massachusetts College Portfolio while he was the CEO of the Bridgewater hedge fund, which in turn owns the Chinese fentanyl manufacturer Yichang Humanwell.

However, the Democrats’ press release came one day after Breitbart reported Casey made significant investments in the same company.

The outlet reported Casey has invested in the Massachusetts College Portfolio since at least 2017, and that the Democrat invested between $15,001 and $50,000 in the fund in 2017, 2021 and 2023, while he invested a more significant amount between $50,001 and $100,000 during the 2020 calendar year.

McCormick issued a response to the claim in an advertisement released last week.

“Bob Casey is lying about me and I won’t tolerate it. I never made any investments in the makers of illegal fentanyl,” said McCormick.

He argued, “The fentanyl crisis is because weak politicians like Bob Casey left our border wide open, and it’s killing Pennsylvanians.”

The Republican also told Breitbart that Casey’s claim “put his own hypocrisy and lies on display” and exemplified “why Pennsylvanians are so tired of career politicians.”

“Casey has had 18 years to secure our border and prevent fentanyl from killing 100,000 Americans last year alone — under his weakness, this crisis has worsened beyond imagination,” he told the outlet.

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party was previously one of the only political groups in the commonwealth not to condemn the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
